The city of Jerusalem, the city of Al-Mada'in (city of cities), is unique for its holiness and the richness of culture and life. Interestingly, the name of the city, Jerusalem, differs across languages. Here, Al-Quds is written in Thuluth Arabic calligraphy script with non-connected letters (Arabic letters are typically connected); each letter overlaps and intersects with those around it. Together they form the eight historical gates of Jerusalem, accompanied by the great poem of the late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, written in simplified Andalusian script. The poem, "In Jerusalem," describes his impressions while walking in Jerusalem.
